BSMGA Senior Weekday Tournaments for 2022:
The BSMGA, and the Club Professional Staff have agreed upon a number of Senior Tournaments (listed below)
usually played during the week to which all seniors are invited. Senior Tournaments include white and gold tees players. This list does not include all regular scheduled Berkeley tournaments which have a “Masters Division” for those seniors who prefer to play from the regular (white) tees.
The vast majority of Country Club members are over the age of 50 and Berkeley is no exception. A good chunk
of them are still working, but a significant proportion of them are retired. Stepping forward to the white tees or even further to the gold tees gives seniors an opportunity to challenge the course when the length of the course is
reduced to manageable levels. Competing on a course more manageable has brought more fun back into these competitions. Berkeley has further made a decision to conform to USGA rules allowing competitors to play from the tees established for their handicap in the same tournament. This means players whose handicaps are established from the white or gold tees may compete with players from the blue or player tees.

Berkeley Seniors remain active during the course renovation:
Most of our BSMGA members show up on a regular basis to play golf on
the 15 holes open during the renovation at Berkeley. We manage to
keep on competing, having fun and enjoying the company of our buddies.
Not exactly USGA rules enforcement, but done fairly and equitably.
During the trip around the course, it is quite interesting to see the
evolution of our old course. We are all impressed with the conversion
of our old greens to Ultra Dwarf Bermuda with larger layouts. If you
have not been coming out during the conversion, you are really missing
the beauty and efficiency of nature and science.
Opportunities to play other courses during the conversion:
The Berkeley Pro Shop has enlisted the help of other courses to
provide reciprocal arrangements for golf. Other fine clubs including
TPC Sugarloaf, St. Ives, Echelon and the Atlanta Country Club are
accepting Berkeley members and making tee times available. All
arrangements for these other clubs are made exclusively through our
Pro Shop. Other opportunities include monthly NASMGA tournaments,
Match Play events, Buddies Trips (like the one scheduled in July at
the Robert Trent Jones Trail course in Prattville and the GSGA “Play
Day” scheduled over the next few months.
Results of the NASMGA Match Play against Eagle Watch CC:
Our Berkeley Match Play Team playing its second straight away match
scored 8 points to Eagle Watch 10 points. Two Berkeley pairings won
their individual matches with two points. A unique highlight was
Esther Park, Assistant Pro playing in the pro position along with Tom
Harvey in the first pairing. They halved their match with 1.5 points
each. Match Play Results – first two matches:
Match Play Captain Barry Lakas reported: We now stand at 25-29 after
three matches and still very much in the playoff hunt
