Berkeley Hills Senior Men’s Golf Association
The Berkeley Senior Men’s Golf Association is a golfing organization within the Berkeley Hills Country Club open to all male members age 50 and older. Starting in 2015, a group of Berkeley Seniors formed a Board to manage a number of senior activities and look for ways to enhance the golfing opportunities for our senior members. We have representation on the Berkeley Board, Berkeley Golf Committee, the North Atlanta Senior Men’s Golf Association, Senior Tournament Director, Berkeley Senior Match Play Team Captain, Treasurer to manage the Senior Fund, Webmaster to manage the BSMGA Website and other staff to assist and advise.
Tournaments:
BSMGA organizes golf tournaments at Berkeley and represents Berkeley in the North Atlanta Senior Men’s Golf Association (NASMGA). There are 17 participating country club in NASMGA (see their website at nasmga.com). During the golfing calendar (8 months), eight of the clubs will host a golf tournament at their club. A portion of the BSMGA annual dues includes membership in the North Atlanta Senor Men’s Golf Association. One of the assets of NASMGA is that all interclub and match play competitions are managed through their website.
Due to the COVD19 Pandemic, the North Atlanta Senior Men's Golf Association cancelled all tournaments for the 2020 season. Some of the premier member country clubs to were approached to offer NASMGA members an opportunity to play these courses without the usual food and other services normal for tournaments. The response was great and 4 Play Day Events were held in the
last 2 months of 2020. Many thanks to St. Ives, White Columns, Big Canoe and Fairways of Canton
for holding these events.
Match Play Competitions:
The NASMGA Match Play schedule for 2021 will be published on the website.
It is anticipated that all 18 Match play teams will rejoin. If so, there will be again 3 divisions of
6 teams each. More than likely, Berkeley will not be playing against the same teams as last year. Unless the COVID19 situation requires delays or cancellations, each team will play matches against
5 other clubs in their division. Eight teams will qualify for the playoffs. Teams finishing first and second in the three divisions qualify and two third place teams scoring the most points will qualify as wild cards.
Social Events:
On several occasions during the year, the BSMGA will organize an evening event at the club where members and their wives or significant others are invited.
Buddies Trips:
Each year the BSMGA will organize a buddy’s trip to clubs within driving distance to experience other venues and throw in a little competition. Past trips included The Sunset Country Club in Moultrie, Southern Hills Country Club in Hawkinsville, Idle Hour Country Club in Macon, Robert Trent Jones Trail in Alabama, and other fine clubs.
