Berkeley Hills Senior Men’s Golf Association

The Berkeley Senior Men’s Golf Association is a golfing organization within the Berkeley Hills Country Club open to all male members age 50 and older.  Starting in 2015, a group of Berkeley Seniors formed a Board to manage a number of senior activities and look for ways to enhance the golfing opportunities for our senior members.  We have representation on the Berkeley Board, Berkeley Golf Committee, the North Atlanta Senior Men’s Golf Association, Senior Tournament Director, Berkeley Senior Match Play Team Captain, Treasurer to manage the Senior Fund, Webmaster to manage the BSMGA Website and other staff to assist and advise.

Happy New Year

Note from BSMGA President Jim Andersen.

As we prepare to embark upon a new year, I want to reflect upon our program for 2022.  Many thanks to Harvey Gammon who not only served as President for the past two years, but he also served as President of NASMGA in 2022.  You did a great job, particularly keeping both organizations going with the uncertainties of the Covid Pandemic bearing down on us. We  managed to increase our membership, fill up our tournaments, a successful Match Play Team, working around the massive changes at Berkeley, great socials and organize some great Buddies Trips with your leadership. Thanks also to the Board members who will continue into the 2023 season.  Our promise is to continue to represent Berkeley Seniors at all levels at Berkeley, at NASMGA and exploring golfing opportunities for our membership.   Let’s have a great year.

Tournaments:

BSMGA organizes golf tournaments at Berkeley and represents Berkeley in the North Atlanta Senior Men’s Golf Association (NASMGA).  There are 17 participating country club in NASMGA (see their website at nasmga.com).  During the golfing calendar (8 months), eight of the clubs will host a golf tournament at their club.  A portion of the BSMGA annual dues includes membership in the North Atlanta Senor Men’s Golf Association.  One of the assets of NASMGA is that all interclub and match play competitions are managed through their website.

Match Play:

One of the favorite activities of the Berkeley Senior Men’s Golf Association is participation in the North Atlanta Senior Men’s Golf Association Match Play Program.  Berkeley Seniors have done well in this competition including playing for the Championship in 2020 against Fairways of Canton CC and coming in 2nd.  The NASMGA 2023 schedule of match play will be available on their website by March 1, 2023. Barry Lakas and Ed Odmark are Co-Captains.  They will send out the schedule and ask current members to reconfirm their participation for 2023.  New members need to check off the Match Play question on the 2023 Registration Form available in the Berkeley Pro Shop.  Any Questions may be directed to Barry Lakas at brlakas@aol.com.

Social Events:

On several occasions during the year, the BSMGA will organize an evening event at the club where members and their wives or significant others are invited.

Buddies Trips:

Each year the BSMGA will organize a buddy’s trip to clubs within driving distance to experience other venues and throw in a little competition.  Past trips included The Sunset Country Club in Moultrie, Southern Hills Country Club in Hawkinsville, Idle Hour Country Club in Macon, Robert Trent Jones Trail in Alabama, Brasstown Valley Resort, McLemore Golf Club and other fine clubs.
